Bunnings Xmas Family Market Night

Bunnings hosted this event on Thursday 8th December starting at 6:00pm and finishing at 8:00pm in their basement car-park at the Balgowlah store. Through Wendy (thank you) we had been offered a community stand where we could try to attract new players to our club. I called for a volunteer or two to man this stand and hand out some $10 discount coupons to anyone who was interested in joining our social tennis. The volunteers needed to dress up in tennis gear and the club provided a banner, some tennis racquets and cans of tennis balls to place on our stand/table. Bunnings offered us a $100 voucher (or five $20 vouchers) if we attended the event. A big thank you to Heather and Yvonne for stepping up and being our volunteers at the stand on the Bunnings Xmas Family night. Although there weren’t many takers for social tennis (apparently it was very much targeted towards young children) we still scored $100 worth of vouchers for our Club. Well done ladies.
Danny.

Year End Arrangements for 2022

Hi Everyone, I have just spoken to Max at Voyager Tennis. He informs me that, whilst he himself will be away on holidays, the Wakehurst Tennis Centre will remain open over the Xmas and New Year period. The only days we will miss will be the two Sundays which fall on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Sunday, 25th December: No tennis Wednesday, 28th December: Tennis on Sunday, 1st January: No tennis Wednesday, 4th January: Tennis on Everything back to normal after this last date. Come out on the Wednesday nights you Sunday-only players and work off some of that Xmas pudding and New Year’s Day feasting. 😀 Danny.

Message From The President

Court Behaviour Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. People should keep to their own business.
Everyone comes to play tennis, enjoy their sport, have some exercise, social interaction and a break from day to day life.
While the majority of the men are stronger players than the majority of the women, due to physical factors, we are a mixed club of about equal number men and women. Some members have played all their life and were A graders, while others have taken the game up late in life.
People do not come for tennis lessons, criticisms of their play or the need to say sorry because they played a bad shot. There has been many occasions where a playing partner’s game has collapsed because of what their partner has said to them. Of course suggestions to your partner regarding positional play or something they are unaware of are part of the game.
We all like to play our best and win as many games as possible, especially so in the Round Robin, so let’s enjoy our tennis.
New Tennis Balls I have negotiated and bought today a $80 discount for Dunlop Australian Open Balls, which is a better price than the Topserve balls. These balls are one of the most popular, have a higher bounce and keep their compression longer. However that meant no gift vouchers. As we are getting older and slower we should enjoy this change, though it may decrease the effectiveness of my drop shot.
Warning A female member was given a warning regarding inappropriate behaviour. See you on the court. Cheers, Roy

Year End Arrangements For 2021

Hiya Tennis Fans and thanks to those who braved the heat to get out for a hit today. Good to be complaining about the heat rather than the rain for a change. We do love a good complain at times :). On this point – I do promise to bring more energy and staying power next year after a good post Xmas refresh.
Thanks Very Much to Heather and Steve for hosting us all at Xmas drinks on Friday night – beautiful place, great company with lots of our ‘better halves’ along, great plate contributions, games and chats. Well done to all the ‘smurf’ winners and apologies for hogging all the mushroom dip – if you didn’t get any it was delicious!
No more requirements to register for our sessions going forward under NSW covid regs. Clearly, only come if you feel up to it and we all carry responsibility to keep each other safe these days.

We still have play scheduled as follows:
Wed 22nd Dec 7.30 is ON No Tennis Boxing day Sunday 26th Wed 29th dec 7.30 is ON Sun 2 Jan 2022 (OMG) is ON for the start to a new year – from Jan all court bookings are from 9 am on Sundays.

Thanks for a great, if challenging year folks. Mel and I really enjoy your company and tennis down at Wakehurst and we look forward to much more of it in the New Year.
Roy/Linsday will get subs communications out in the New Year – we’re looking at reduced subs for the Jan-Jun 2022 period based on the long covid break and we’re basing reduced subs on the 10 – 13 weeks that members could not play during restrictions and when folks came back to play.
cheers for now – will see some of you before year end but to those we don’t all the best for an awesome Xmas and New Years with family and friends, in our beautiful Northern Beaches or wherever you are celebrating.

Spring Tennis Starting Under New NSW Covid Restrictions

Hi Tennis Fans,
hope you’re all well, rested and mentally holding it together after this extended lockdown. The good news – it seems the New freedoms for vaccinated first step on state roadmap out of COVID
is that for LGAs not of concern in Greater Sydney, we can resume group exercise in maximum groups of 5 from 13th. On this basis and pending any further restriction advice – we’ll open up for social again from Wednesday 15th Sep.
We’ll use the same registration process for Wednesday Night (7 – 9 pm) and Sunday (9 -11 am) sessions and hopefully extend hours in October as we get more players returning.
One condition of the new restrictions is that every player must be fully vaccinated from Covid – that’s 2 jabs – “jab jab, BiPhi, Biaz” but fully vaxxed is the requirement and we’ll ask you to confirm this in each booking form.
We’ll keep courts to groups of 4 for 1 hour sessions and maximum of 5 for 2 hour sessions and we wont mix groups. The booking form links below have some options to select preferred playing partners and offer any feedback – we just ask for your email / phone for any responses/confirmations and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Very important to please confirm with John on this email or 0422 294 358 any changes or issues prior to and after playing groups are set.
Booking forms for Wednesday 15th Sep 7  – 9 – Link here
Booking form for Sunday 19th Sep 9  -11 am Link here
PS: Discussion on comps timing and credits for subs paid since July will come when things settle back down to some sort of normalcy.
cheers folks and really looking forward to getting back for some good social tennis

New COVID Protocols for Social Tennis

Tennis NSW update yesterday has confirmed that club social tennis can continue in the current restrictions, noting covid protocols need to apply (weather permitting).
Tomorrow night – 30th June registration form is still active. Please register by 12 noon tomorrow and just let me know by 6 pm if you can’t make it. All still welcome but please accept player group allocation based on numbers.
Sunday 4th July  – Register here
We’ll have playing groups of 10 max on each cabana allocated across 2 courts, please store your gear in / around your cabana and limit off-court time to your playing groups where possible. We’re also going back to Covid end changes – 4 games each end then swap to complete the set.
We’ll happily take suggestions for managing our playing within the spirit of these restrictions and incorporate for future dates if workable – thanks for your understanding.
thanks team and stay well – John and Mel x

COVID-19 Measures During Lockdown

This communication complies with Tennis NSW and Wakehurst Tennis are good with it. This situation may change over coming days if Tennis NSW / State Govt release more restrictions around community sport.
Each of us must comply to any applicable personal restrictions/isolation in terms of NSW Gov’t published exposure sites and of course, if you are feeling unwell don’t risk it. First priority is self and our communities health.
Tennis is on today with the following measures in place:

 – we all need to use the QR check in facilities which are at the club – we will play in groups of 8 all morning – first comers will make the first group, leave stuff in or around the usual cabana – next group in the next cabana down..and so on – Social distancing needs to be observed – masks are not required outside but feel free to bring one for off-court if you feel safer with it or to further protect each other if there are a few off court at the same time – We will handle our equipment and balls centrally – Sanitise

Thanks folks – glad we can still get out today and hope to see you down there,
John & Mel
